Follow the 6 Step to Cool

1. Close Curtains

Bright sunlight is your AC system’s nemesis. By closing blinds and sliding curtains to block the sun’s rays, you’ll also shield your space from the sun’s heat, experts say.

2. Seal Windows and Doors

Your windows and doors are often a major factor in energy loss in your home and you certainly don’t want that money leaving through cracks and windows. Insulation and draft proofing can make your home more comfortable and quiet while saving energy and reducing heating costs by 5-10 percent. Single-paned windows that have metal frames are not well insulated and do not keep the heat in or out very well. These types of windows only take up between 5-10% of a home’s total surface area that is exposed to outside temperatures but accounts for as much as 30% of the heat lost in a home. Older homes are more susceptible to heat loss because of the structure of the windows. The edges of doors and windows account for a large amount of air leakage.

3. Keep AC Filter Clean

The most important maintenance task that will ensure the efficiency of your air conditioner is to routinely replace or clean its filters. Clogged, dirty filters block normal airflow and reduce a system's efficiency significantly. With normal air flow obstructed, air that bypasses the filter may carry dirt directly into the evaporator coil and impair the coil's heat-absorbing capacity. Replacing a dirty, clogged filter with a clean one can lower your air conditioner's energy consumption by 5% to 15%.

4. Check the thermostat

As most of the thermostat used in air- conditioner unit is room sensing thermostat. Don’t place lamps, TV sets, or other heat-producing appliances near your thermostat. The thermostat senses the heat causing the air conditioner to run longer than necessary. When installing a new thermostat, don't place it in a location where the sun might shine on it directly.

5. Reduce the Heat

To reduce the heat use window treatments over large windows. Blocking the sun's rays will make your home easier to cool and keep your air-conditioning system from running so often.

 6. Do Possible Maintenance

      a. Cleaning the filter.

      b. Cleaning the cooling fan.

      c. Cleaning and maintaining the exterior of the air conditioning unit.

      d. Remove obstruction around the condensing unit to avoid the overrunning of the air-conditioner unit.
