Lufthansa buys two Genie articulating boom lifts

International airline company Deutsche Lufthansa AG has purchased two Genie Z-34/22 N electric articulating boom lifts. The machines were supplied by Huntraco Zrt: an authorised distributor of Terex Aerial Work Platforms (AWPs) in Hungary.

The units will support the maintenance of Lufthansa’s aircraft at Budapest Liszt Ferenc International Airport. Both machines have been equipped with specially adapted aircraft protection packages.

Modern aircraft maintenance requires swift checks to be conducted on the tarmac, and a variety of heavier, longer-term duties have to be carried out in the hanger. The German airline, however, is confident that its newly acquired boom lifts are up to the challenge.

“We first started renting Genie lifting equipment with Huntraco about nine years ago,” said Lufthansa’s Krisztián Radó. “To make a fair comparison, we also rented similar machines by other brands. For us, the Genie Z-34/22 N articulating boom lift proved to be fast, highly manoeuvrable and safe, which is precisely what we need.”ustomer in Saudi Arabia. Two machines in two days is an excellent rate of success.”

The boom lifts feature a narrow system width of just 1.47m, giving them the ability to corner quickly in confined spaces. The Z-34/22’s articulating boom and rotating jib provide a working height of up to 12.52m, a maximum horizontal reach of 6.78m, and an up-and-cover clearance of 4.62m.

“The airport terminal is always busy with vehicles and machines,” Radó explained. “Inside the maintenance hangar we can be working on up to four or five aircraft at a time. Space is limited, so we need all the manoeuvrability we can get.

“Our machines are equipped with the Genie Aircraft Protection Package, which, in addition to significantly reducing the possibility of damaging the aircraft, also provides our operators with the peace of mind they need to work smoothly and productively,” he added.
